Sigmund Freud was the founder of psychoanalysis and, over his immensely productive and extraordinary career, developed groundbreaking theories about the nature and workings of the human mind, which went on to have an immeasurable impact on both psychology and Western culture as a whole. Sigmund Freud nasceu no dia 6 de maio de 1856 em Freiberg, no Império Austro-Húngaro, numa família de tradição judaica.
He became interested in hypnotism and how it could be used to help the mentally ill. He later abandoned hypnotism in favor of free association and dream analysis in developing what is now known as "the talking cure." Sigmund Freud believed that neuroses and other abnormal mental conditions are rooted from one's unconscious mind.
